| photoman's Full Review: Nikon N90S 35mm Film Camera |
The Nikon N90s is a low end professional and high end advanced amateur camera which incorporates a lot of very useful features. The advanced auto-focus system is one of the primary reasons I bought the camera. It is very fast and accurate. I had no problems tracking birds in flight and athletes in action. It offers a variety of exposure choices which include Program, Aperture priority, Shutter priority and Manual. It also has a flach sync socket which is very nice for using with studio strobes and non-Nikon flashes. The focusing system allows you to choose between a narrow band of focus and a wider band of focus. This is very nice when shooting telephoto or macro in that it eliminates a lot of searching and locks in easier in the narrow mode. The wider mode works well with wide angle lenses and normal landscape compositions. It has a very solid feel to it and is extremely quiet. There is no shutter vibration at all. A data back is available although I chose not to purchase one. It is useful for date stamping and multiple exposures. It also has a software program available by which you can download information through the databack to your computer to track exposure information and other data. I have been into photography for 30 years and did not feel the need to utilize the software program.
In short, I found it to be an extremely versatile and solid performer that does a wide variety of tasks well. I purchased it with the intent of putting in a housing and diving with it. I have just purchased the housing and can report on that soon. This is a very nice camera for the novice to the seasoned professional.
