| DeBeBop's Full Review: The Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom |
Countdown! One more month, July 14th, before our union picnic. I have decided not to tell my 4 year old until 5 days ahead so that he can keep track of the days on one hand. The picnic will be held at the Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom in Lake George, NY.
The admission gate opens at 9:00 a.m. and the park gates open at 9:30 a.m. I like to get there by 8:30 a.m. and have a picnic breakfast in the parking lot. There are various admission prices, discounts, package deals, group sales and school group rates. Please keep in mind that an adult is considered 48" tall when deciding which admission you wish to pay.
When you first enter the park gates, you will walk down a cobblestone road of tiny, pricey shops. This is the place to pick up last minute items you may have forgot like film, suntan lotion, hats and rental wagons for the children. Don't forget to use the bathrooms too.
Up and around the corner, you could easily become overwhelmed with all there is to do. I hope you took the park map that was offered to you at the admission gate. Take a moment and review show times and places.
As you walk through the nursery rhyme area, the children can go into the little houses like the 3 Little Pigs. there are numerous rides and activities for the very little ones. I still enjoy Alice in Wonderland. Take a train train ride around the park. This is a perfect time to see many of the rides available. From the milder rides, like the Ferris (sp?) Wheel and Sky-Ride to the rides for those with a strong stomach, like the many roller coasters or rotor, there must be a ride for you.
As the day goes on and the heat index rises, you may really enjoy cooling down on a water slide. The Desperado Plunge, located in Ghost Town is one of my favorites. Sit in a carved out looking log and get wet as the log travels the paths of the lumberjack mill. Another Favorite of mine the Raging River, an inner tube-like ride down the raging rapids.
Did I happen to mention the wait lines are very long, but they move at a steady pace. Don't get discouraged because the wait will be well worth it. Still, I am glad the picnic is on a Friday and not on the weekend!
There are plenty of shows and attractions. Make sure you check that map that was given to you at the admission gate for the times and location. I look forward this year to watching my son walk side by side with Marshal McKay and the the other children as they all attempt to catch the bank robbers in GhostTown. The ice shows, puppet shows, the high diving show and many more will definitely catch your attention in-between the rides.
