Where is the info?
by lrijn ,May 03 '05
Pros: one of the few medium camera's to consider
Cons: getting clear facts (pricing) on the digital back is close to impossible
It is all nice to read about the wonderful camera and it's digital abilities, but NOWHERE will you find clean and clear information on the digital back needed for this. Everyone mentions it on it's website that the ability is there, but even Mamiya self will not communicate anything clear on this. Some places even refer to this camera and the worlds first cross platform camera, which is wrong.
The main reason for considering this camera, is because it's competitor (Hasselblad H1D) can be delivered completely (with digital back) at approx $25,000. So, if Mamiya's price stays below that with some respectable level, then it could be considered, but not under other conditions.

A Great Camera With A Great Feel
by hwillnow2 ,Oct 07 '03
Pros: Quick and accurate Focus. Fast loading and advancement of film.
Cons: With 6 AA batteries it is a little heavy.
I have several cameras including the RZ67 Pro II. I have been using the 645E and a Nikon N900 for weddings and portraits. I purchased the 645AFD because I have to wear glasses and liked the auto focus feature. I am thinking of selling all of my other camera equipment to purchase another 645 AFD. This is one great camera. I photographed some children using the 210mm AF lens. The balance of camera and lens felt great, auto focus was fast and accurate. The Auto exposure worked perfectly. Loading film was fast, since you do not have to wind the film to the "Start" position (the camera automatically sets the film to the first exposure while you hold the release button half way in)which also squeezes out an extra shot from the roll, 16 instead of 15. The viewfinder is clear and bright, you can see f/stop, shutter speed and what ever else you want to see while shooting.
This camera gets you excited about photography all over again. It is a great tool that allows you to concentrate on the image rather than the mechanics of the camera.

Its a Beast
by julian_stein ,Jul 12 '04
Pros: Solid build, good viewfinder
Cons: Slow Autofocus, Heavy
I do not own this camera but i used is very often at the school i went to last year.

I used this camera not with film but with a digital phase one h10 back. This camera is really heavy, now so are most Medium format cameras compared to 35mm ones but this one especially. When shooting horizontally the camera has a really nice grip despite being heavy it handles well. However if you want to shoot vertically the grip is less than good in my mind, it might be something to do with me being left handed as well.

I shoot with this camera in a somewhat dark studio. I find the auto focus works well but is slow as can be with only 3 points. For the most part i just turned it off and focused by hand.
