Intro & Experience
I have had the Heat Factory® Over the Knee Wader Socks for quite a while now and they have held up great for all around comfort by cushioning, and preventing friction injuries to the skin. There is not a whole lot of cushion to the sock but the comfort from it will last up to eight hours. I have not got any blisters with wearing these socks which is a definite plus when you are needing a good outdoor sock with a pair of shoes or boots that generally give you blisters.
These are intended for use in wader boots, etc. to keep your feet warm along with the use of a "Heat Factory foot warmer" (or you may try Toasti Toes® by Heatmax® -- One Excellent Way to Stay Free From Cold which generally is less expensive or these if you can get a good price on them Grabber MyCoal 20-Hour Warmer 10 Pack -- Great For Providing Warmth In The Cold) in the pocket of each sock (with the pocket in the upright position) by the toes and is great for fishing with feet in cool/cold water, hunting, hockey, other cold weather activities such as snow sports for example snowboarding, skiing, and sledding or just playing in the snow.
Another fine aspect of these socks is that they help improve circulation by providing compression, in conjunction with the heat, which also allows for better circulation in the toes especially and the legs for prolonged period of time while sitting or standing in a single spot.
I recommend using fabric softener to help keep the socks soft because of being fifty percent man made materials.
Since the sock is made of wool predominantly it will last you many years to come and provide many years of comfort granted they are not abused.
Fabric Content
Heat Factory® Over the Knee Wader Socks are composed of fifty percent Merino wool, thirty percent acrylic, ten percent nylon, and ten percent Lycra.
Recommend
Yes, I would definitely recommend Heat Factory® Over the Knee Wader Socks to anyone looking to keep their toes warm from the nipping cold.
Place Of Manufacture
Made in the USA.
Durability
These socks will last you for many years (given you are wearing shoes or sandals with them) to come as long as you keep yours shoes properly tied and toenails reasonable length; meaning that you feet are not loose in the boots rubbing against the heel portion and your toenails are at normal length so they do not essentially cut through the sock itself. Plus it is important that you unlace your boots so you do not prematurely wear out the heel. Another thing that is important is proper washing and drying to extend life of the socks.
Care Instructions
I recommend turning the socks inside out before washing and that you wash on normal cycle. Wash in warm water. DO NOT BLEACH. Hydrolysis is simply rotting away of the man-made fabric in this case.
Other Care Directions
A fine point that is not well known is that you should not just forcefully pull on your socks because it causes permanent stretching which eventually will tear a hole in the socks or make them to where they are too loose to wear. Gently roll or bunch the socks pass on over toes to the heel then gently bring them up towards your calf. The point of this to simply prevent stretching and allow for them to be in service for years to come. I have done this practice with (my diabetic socks that I use for controlling swelling [an issue that is now rather infrequent]) and steel toe shoe socks since 1997 (ten years and believe it or not some of the socks I still have from that time frame) and really does extend the life of the socks in general but especially in the heel region.
At some point during the time which you have these socks if you notice a loose end clip it as close as you can carefully to the sock with scissors to prevent premature unraveling or bunching or pulling or breaking. (Do not just pull a loose strand by hand.)
Washing Directions
Use gentle/mild soap and chlorine free bleach so that you do not cause the fibers to fall apart.
Drying Directions
I usually place them on cycle of tumble dry low them since high heat is not needed since they are made of various light weight fabrics even though it may take a little longer. High heat in the long run can cause the various fabrics in the socks to bind up some making the socks uncomfortable or loose up around the top of the sock.
