| Baldwyn's Full Review: Rescue Pets Wake Me Up |
My daughter is now 7 years old, and has had a stuffed animal obsession all her life. She doesn't play with dolls. Every Christmas, she wants one of those "Fur Real" friends. She gets them, and she tries to play with them, but often they don't work as shown on TV. She tries hard to get them to work, but eventually, they're shoved back into the closet, with regular stuffed animals getting prominent placement on her bed.
When she saw the Rescue Pets Wake Me Up toy on TV, she immediately wanted it for her birthday. So when my sister-in-law asked for present suggestions, I told her to get one of these. She picked out the Golden Retreiver.
We've been living with the Golden Retreiver for four months. The collar tag has an LCD clock, and flips open to allow it to be set, and an alarm time to be set. When the dog goes to sleep, it scoots its front legs forward, to lie down. When the alarm goes off, it sits back up and barks. A tap on the head serves as a snooze.
My daughter wakes up at 6:30 to get ready for school, so old Goldie is set every night. It's really quite cute to hear the barking from her room in the morning. At first, it drove our puppy crazy, but he's realized it's just a toy now. She can be a heavy sleeper, and it doesn't always wake her up. It would be nice to adjust volume, some how. Other than that, it works as advertised, which with our previous failings with robot dogs, has been a really pleasant surprise.
The toy itself has big, puppy-sad eyes, and seems to pluck that awwwww heart-strings with little girls. He has now been worked into our bedtime routine. He doesn't always sit right away, and the gears churn for awhile, but by pushing his legs forward, he'll stop. No issues with the "stuffed" part of the toy yet, either.
It was a gift, but purchased for around $25. We've had it for four months, and haven't had to change batteries yet.
In the end, this toy does what it sets out to do, and is a great addition to my daughter's menagerie.
