I meant it! That's right, even in this digital world comprised of supposedly paperless offices I sometimes need a piece of paper to shout "I mean it!" when it's lying on my desk. I need a specific row of data to stand out from the rest because it needs my attention in the most urgent of ways at times. Other times the row is an anomaly that must be re-measured to insure accuracy. No matter the reason, I am like millions of office workers who came before me in that I need certain data printed onto paper and I need some of it to stand out boldly from the rest.
Why I use the Sharpie
We all know that there are dozens of types, shapes, and sizes of highlighter available. It's a simple question but an important one: why this one? The Sharpie Accent is big and fat like the highlighters of yesteryear. I can grip it without looking away from my work and know when I've found it and not another pen. If my eyes stay on the data my place isn't lost!
Sharpie is a number one marker manufacturer, why wouldn't they do fine with this? My permanent markers are exclusively Sharpie to I had to give them a try here.
If it's good...
There are things about this marker that I really like. It has a beveled tip which means you can use the point for a highlight as thin as a pen stroke of you can use the full width for a wide swatch of attention grabbing yellow.
Durability isn't an issue. It's possible than many users will keep this highlighter for a couple of years if they use it until it runs dry. I know that sounds crazy but mine lasted something like two years under moderate use.
Color is the point of the thing and this one is bold. Yellow in this particular shade leaps off of white paper from a distance. If you put the highlighted document on one corner of your desk you'll know from your seat what needs your attention.
The bad
Once I've highlighted a document it typically gets filed for posterity. After a few years in the filing cabinet this yellow tag fades considerably and after 7 to 10 years it's nearly gone. That may not matter to you but when I revisit a file for one of my designs it's typically in this 7 to 10 year range because of the lifespan of my machines. If the highlighted issues are lost I could overlook them or not realize they were important to me back then.
Also, when you scan or copy a document with this color make sure you are set to full color. Greyscale doesn't pick up this yellow well and black and white will turn this color black, censoring the words you'd highlighted!
Overall
Highlighters in general are easy to use and valuable in an office. The Sharpie shines because it has a large ink reservoir but it suffers from fading ink. Maybe they all do this but I still detract a full star of value from it that you may not if you don't revisit documents after a certain time period. Still, it's a good product that I use to the exclusion of all but the Sanford series of highlighters.
