Tempurpedic is great (Reply to this comment)
by mwolffy
I bought my king size tempurpedic about a year ago. My husband has serious back problems with pressure points in his upper back that cause continuous spasms. After sleeping on this bed, the problems with the pressure points are gone. They returned after we spent 2 weeks in a hotel and went away again after we returned home to our bed.
If you like to keep the house very cold, the bed can be very firm and I tend to notice the foam surrounding my body more, which could make it hard for some people to turn over.
Someone mentioned the cover forming little balls of material. Mine also did this. I called Tempurpedic and they said it was a known problem and they will replace it. I just have to send in pictures.
The warranty people have been great and I am very satisfied. I would recommend this mattress to anyone and everyone. I feel it was the best 2000.00 I have ever spent.

That makes sense since it feels a bit different. All the retailers we talked to didn't mention that - though one mentioned the hard foam on the top - perhaps that was his interpretation of the patent?
Still, we did end up getting another tempurpedic mattress - so we ended up voting with our wallet.
Competition is certainly heating up - and with time, the advantage of the Tempurpedic is likely to erode further as it did over the previous 5 years. This will be a boon to everyone as Tempurpedic will have to continuously innovate to stay ahead of the pack.

I would like to quickly mention why other "memory foam" beds are less expensive than Tempur-Pedic. It is not just the design of putting tempur material on top of other foam that is patented, they have patented the tempur material itself. Any less expensive versions are using a different memory foam. While the feeling may be similar to begin with, the major difference is the density of the foam (tempur-pedic doesn't actually call their stuff "foam", but "material") A higher density means less air, so less room for the cells to collapse into over time. This will keep the mattress feeling like new for longer, and give it an overall longer life span. I'm biased because I sell the product at a retailer, but just wanted to keep everyone informed. Happy shopping and sweet dreams! Andy in Milwaukee

We had looked at the isotonic mattress, too. I'm glad that it seems like we couldn't have gone wrong in this instance! We had also found a warehouse that was willing to sell the memory foam material in a sheet as well as a mattress sized foam sheet -- sort of a DIY style mattress. We almost went that route, but chickened out at the last minute.

Hello and Welcome! (Reply to this comment)

I'm so happy to read that you are satisfied with the TempurPedic mattress. My husband and I have a similar foam mattress - the Isotonic. We absolutely love it! The lack of motion transfer with foam beds is amazing. We've had ours about one year now, and it is still like new.
Welcome! And thanks so much for taking the time to bring your review to Epinions. Have fun, enjoy the site, and let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything here :)
