I bought a Nikon Nuvis S after I got fed up with the problems of my Canon Elph.
The Elph had several flaws that the Nuvis fixed: the Nuvis is much less prone to red-eye, it doesn't turn itself on accidentally in my pocket, and the flash isn't mounted on a flimsy pop-up mechanism.
It's only slighty bigger than the Elph, but the case is "included."
In fact, I think that the best feature of this camera is the integrated
case. It still can easily fit in a roomy pants pocket--it's not much bigger than a wallet, and certainly smaller than a cell phone.
It takes good pictures--and the 3:1 zoom is a great feature. It also seems to focus well up close.
One problem is that it's easy (for me at least) to put your fingers in
front of the lens. And when I'm taking pictures with the camera vertical,
I've had the strap get in front of the lens. After I realized this, a bit
of care when holding the problem solved it.
