| Christine79's Full Review: Minolta Maxxum Qtsi Body Only 35mm Film Camera |
The Minolta Maxxum QTsi is an easy to operate camera that takes excellent photos. I upgraded to this camera six months ago for both my professional and personal photography needs. I am especially pleased with the quality of my outdoor photos and enlargements.
Features of the Maxxum QTsi include both automatic and manual focus options, a self-timer, continuous advance, a built-in flash, a wireless/remote flash, automatic exposure and six subject program selections (portrait mode, landscape mode, close-up mode, sports mode and night portrait mode). When using the subject program selection modes, the camera will automatically set the recommended shutter speed and aperture for the type of photo being taken.
This camera comes with a standard 0.38/1.3ft. Macro lens (model AF 35-80). This lens is adequate for most photography needs. If needed, compatible lens upgrades area available through Minolta. (All Minolta AF lens' except the manual MD and MC series are compatible with this camera.)
The price range of this camera varies, depending on the location of purchase. This particular camera was purchased at Wal-Mart for approximately $300. I found this price to be reasonable, as the camera produces excellent images and offers a wide-range of photography options.
Due to its simplicity, I would also recommend this camera as an upgrade camera for older children (13 years and up). The instruction manual is easy to understand and offers an excellent trouble-shooting guide.
Aside from basic care, the Maxxum QTsi is virtually maintenance free. It requires two 3V CR2 Lithium batteries for operation.
The only drawback of this camera is an occasional delay when using the auto focus feature. When the subject is moving, it often takes several seconds for the auto focus to adjust. When taking pictures of moving subjects, I recommend using the sports mode, even if the photos are casual shots of active children. This will help reduce the auto focus adjustment time.
Overall, this is a high-quality, reasonably priced camera that will deliver quality photography results.
