I was on the hunt for a camera since my last camera was the product from hell (see my review on the Nikon Nuvis 160i APS Camera). I was looking for a camera that was compact, easy to use and would produce top quality images.
The Minolta Maxxum QTsi does just that and more. I've had the camera for a little over a month, and so far, I haven't been disappointed. I bought the camera along with the AF 70-210 1.1m/3.6ft MACRO zoom lens on April 1st (wow April Fool's Day), but I wasn't fooled with this camera. I bought it with me to Opening Day at Shea Stadium and took some shots of the game, as well as some candids of my friends. When I got those pictures back, I was in awe. The colors were bright, the images were sharp, and the shots of the game looked like postcards. I was REALLY impressed with the colors of the field, the players and the spectators. The green grass on the field was as bright and colorful as the color spectrum. I was very impressed.
Since then, I've taken images of dance performances, birds in flight, candids, head shots, and sunsets just to name a few. All my images have been impressive. I am most proud of the images I took of the birds in flight and the sunset/silhouette images. I decided to do a little exploring in this area because I never had the chance to shoot these types of images. For the birds in flight, I used the AF 70-210 lens to really capture the moments, and the images I got were poetic. The extension of the wings, the action of the birds in flight were remarkable. I was VERY happy. For the sunset/silhouette images, these took a little more patience, but well worth the wait. I used the zoom lens, and the reflection of the sun on the pond as well as the silhouette of the birds and ducks were great.
I'm in love with the Minolta Maxxum QTsi. This camera will be a big asset for me when I'm in Alaska studying Photography.
It's lightweight, easy to use and very affordable. Give it try and I promise you won't be disappointed.
