| Woodman's Full Review: Minolta Maxxum Qtsi Body Only 35mm Film Camera |
Picture this ... needing a camera for my new job as a sports journalist/photographer I headed for my local Ritz retailer. Since I'm a recent college grad, money was tight, but I had saved a few bucks for a camera. When I got to the store, I was inundated with $500, $700 and $1,000 cameras. Holy canoli I thought, I am never going to be able to afford a camera, but the sad truth was, I had to buy one for work. So as I flipped through the catalog, I noticed a special holiday sale where the Minolta Maxxum QTsi was only $299... lemme tell you, what a steal. I also bought an extra zoom lens (100-300m) for $150.The Maxxum QTsi is perfect for new photographers, such as myself who had never used anything other than mom's 35mm point and shoot. The Maxxum QTsi is fully automatic, with a slight touch of a button, the picture will auto focus until the picture is 100 percent clear. A second touch of that button takes the picture. There are also a number of settings allowing you to take pictures in different instances. My favorite is the sports action mode, obviously, because that is what I do, I take sports photos for a newspaper. The camera is so simple. Loading the film is a breeze, there are even instructions that walk you through everything. It is lightweight and also comes with a neck strap. Even though it is a fully-automatic camera, you can use the manual focus feature. There are a few drawbacks. First, the batteries are expensive, roughly $17 for a pair. Secondly, when you're using the auto focus for taking action shots, sometimes the camera has difficulty locking in a good shot. But, this is obvious because the subject in the picture is constantly moving, so in this instance, using manual focus comes in handy. The Minolta Maxxum QTsi is the perfect camera for beginners who do not want to shell out a ton of money. You'll be impressed with the quality of the pictures and will become a pro in no time. So smile, say cheese, and picture yourself with a Minolta QTsi in your hands.
