tomas4103's Full Review: Nikon F100 Body Only 35mm Film Camera
I have been a NIKON fan for over 30 years. Starting with the original f model [which i still own] right up to the f100. As age has reduced my focusing ability a bit the switch to auto focus became an interesting option.
I must admit i was a bit overly concerned about the high tech features of this camera, however after using it for the last four months my concerns were soon put behind me. I have used the f100 on many field trips to the south west & also EUROPE & could not be more pleased. The auto focus is with out a doubt a real blessing, both fast & accurate. Of course i use only 2.8 or faster prime lenses which allows the auto focus to work at its maximum ability.
I still focus manually when time allows but have become a f100 a/f beliver. The 3D matrix metering can be trusted about 90% of the time only strong back lighting can affect its metering ability. However with the spot metering which i find to be right on its quickly overcome. My only complaint is the lack of mirror lock up.
I often wonder on a camera this expensive why NIKON did not include it. I also find the a/m switch a bit to small & located in a poor position. Overall i think this is a excellent camera with almost all the pro desired features plus the added convenience of auto focus. It feels like it will last a very long time despite its high tech features.Time will only tell. IF it holds up as long as my old friend the F model than an old friend just got better.Any one who takes his photography seriously the f100 is a excellent choice.
