Pros: smooth shutter, lightweight, easy to remove lens, idiot friendly.
Cons: electronic light meter, but it's really cool otherwise.
The Bottom Line: as far as cheaper cameras go, this one is really good. it allows you to spend money on the important things, like accessory lenses and transformers.

this is the newest camera in my photography class, and it has easily become my favorite. everyone else seems to complain about the body, but if you aren't inclined to smash your camera up against hard objects or drop it on concrete, i don't see why that's a problem. it's made of some weird plastic, but it seems more durable than a lot of others. the plastic does, however, make the camera really light weight. the light meter is really awesome. it's digital so you don't have to fiddle with trying to get the aperture somewhat right. it tells you whether or not it's right or not. it's like the difference between an electric and non electric guitar tuner. you don't have to worry about getting the needle right smack dab in the middle. it gives you a green light so you don't have to guess. i personally like the electronic aspects. the shutter is smooth as butter, which is really nice because i have this canon ae 1 that makes a labored noise upon shutter release, but everyone tells me that it's relatively normal. the nikon makes the most beautiful swish. ahh. if you're into a camera that's a technological masterpiece and you're on a beer budget, i'd go for the nikon. it's really nice. oh yeah. and due to the splendid electronic meter, it takes wonderfully exposed pictures. the quality is really nice, too.
