Pros: takes all Nikon AF lenses, accurate metering, better built than successors
Cons: pushbutton interface, no cable release
The Bottom Line: If you find one for $150 of less, buy it. It is very well built and easy to use.

| cjprom's Full Review: Nikon N50 Film Camera |
I've had this camera about 3 years, and have taken quite a few nice shots with it. I agree with the other reviewers that the meter is very accurate. It produces very well saturated slides. It deals with complex lighting situations reasonably well, and has an autoexposure lock which is very well located on the body. The camera is also well balanced and comfortable in the hand, much more so than the N60 or 65. This is not a good camera to learn photography on however. Although it has a manual mode, the pushbutton interface makes that all but useless. When you keep in mind that this camera is aimed at new SLR users, however, it fulfilles its mission quite well. Although advanced users would find the program modes( aside from aperature priority) superfluous, they actually work quite well for beginners. The nitetime mode in particular works well in my experience.
The only caveat I have about this camera is that the shutter on mine died after 2 and a half years, a $160 repair, in spite of the fact that the camera is much more solidly constructed than anything else in its class.
