sorry for the low rating (Reply to this comment)

Your review sounds much more like an advertisment for the porduct and merely relists the published specifications from the owner's manual.
There is also a lot of inaccurate information about HDTV, progressive scan, component, s-video, composite video connections. I don't think you really understand very well what those are about.
It is regretable that people, and reviewers on this site are much more impressed by the length of a review rather than it's accuracy or personal experience with a product.
Regards,
Bobby

Thirty bucks for a 6 footer SVideo? Ouch! My condolences. Same thing happened to me when I bought my Mitsubishi SVHS; I just HAD to have a SVHS tape right there and then, and bit the bait at the store. I paid twice as much as the price in other electronics stores. The morale is, NEVER take a break from shopping around.
Excellent review by the way; eventually I'll pick up one of these "play any kind of disc" machines to show off my home-made SVCDs. Thanks to you, CyberHome will be a bargain I will look into.

Use its component video outputs if your TV supports them (Reply to this comment)

This particular review is an exceptionally good one! My compliments to the author Paul.
However Paul mistakenly purchased an S-video cable (single video cable with PS/2 connector) instead of a component video output cable combo (3 diferent color-coded video cables). Although his HDTV supports S-video, that's a much lower quality interface than its other (component video) interface. Component video is commonly known to be superior to S-video, even for TVs that don't also support progressive scan (PS). However, the PS support of Paul's HDTV makes the choice of video cable even more overwhelmingly in favor of component video output instead of S-video output.

We are selling this DVD player at Best Buy at the same cost as well - before and after black friday sales. I was wondering about this unit. Great review. Thanks for reading my review as well. Nice to read more electronic reviews from another guy other than nc10. ;)
As for cheap DVD players - I am surprised at how many features they are being packed with at that price! This unit is also a progressive scan DVD player!

Your point is very well made. In fact, it took me two purchases of DVD players before my realization sets in. But I think it also has to do with the current modern technology that the previous DVD players did not benefit from.
Thanks for your comment.

I just made that point in another comment! How weird! Here in SEA, it's well known the cheap DVD players are better than the top of the range ones (why SEA? Well because we play a lot of less than stellar quality VCDs and DVDs here due to a little problem starting with "P....") *blush*. Completely opposite to most technologies, so usually it takes at least two purchases before the DVD-cheaper is better realisation hits.
Great review, very detailed,
Cheers,
Renee.

Make a $30 DVD player that could also read SACD. I'm sure that will be something that will soon be trickling down into inexpensive players as well.
