I am currently 23 years old and have worked for First Union for almost 3 years. I live in Lancaster PA, but I am from all over. Born in Fort Bragg NC, my family moved to Coralville IA when I was 2. There I remained until my parents got divorced while I was 4. My mother made a huge sacrifice when during the divorce it would be better if my father got custody of me, as she felt he could provide a more stable future both financially and support wise.
To this day, I completely respect her for making this hard decision and showing the maturity of putting my needs in front of her own, and I love her always for that.
Anyway my dad and I moved to Cedar Rapids IA, and remmarried when I was 6. About a year after becoming part of a stepfamily, we moved to Ames IA so that he could finish his degree at the most beautiful campus in the midwest, Iowa State U. We stayed there until I was 12 when my father's career took us out to Spotsylvania VA (which is halfway between DC and Richmond).
Living in Virginia was my first taste of what the south is like and although people bash the south for their accents, I learned a lot about acceptance and unfortunately was also exposed to the ignorance of racism.
The good part of VA was that it put me closer to my mother who I had only seen 6 times since my parents divorced, as she had settled in Lancaster PA, remarried and now I had a sister and 2 brothers who are twins. I stayed in Virginia until I graduated and moved back to Iowa to pursue my education.
I originally planned on becoming a meteorologist specializing in tornado chasing (yes this was BEFORE Twister came out). My life long dream was crushed as I just could not cut it in Calculus or Physics the base core courses of any science degree. Then I decided to switch to communications and hoped to be on radio or TV. Since I could get a communications degree anywhere (whereas ISU was one of only 5 options for weather) I got homesick and moved out to live with my mother for the first time since I was 4, in 1998. I left a lot of good friends and good times in Iowa, but because my mother and family were having serious difficulty with her husband who had gone from occassional drinker, to constantly drunk, suicidal, and a threat to himself and others.
I felt that since my mom made the sacrifice that she did when my parents got divorced, that I would return the favor and help her in raising my sister and 2 brothers and giving them the positive, stable male influence that had been lacking for a few years.
Lancaster PA is where I have been ever since, helping MY family, attending Millersville U. (finally switching to and deciding on a business degree), and finding a company that I am proud to say I work for and work with in First Union.
There are some other details about me but this is just supposed to be a background and I just turned it into a mini novel.
