About truevine

Use to travel with minimum gear and a real adept of fire camp. Breakfast/lunch and diner were cooked on a daily basis for months at the time, so getting technical is a real issue for me.
This is my packing for the long long trips in tropical region:>>
- 1 backpack (that last one trip normally)
- 1 sleeping bag with a cover (ok for a couple of trips)
- 1 survival blanket (still have to use it)
- 1 cooking pot with lid (the old fashion ones in aluminium)
- 1 teapot (metal)
- 1 plastic cup
- 2 plastic bottles for water (the folding type: Platipus)
- 1 spoon (last travel I forgot it so I carved one)
- 1 Opinel No9 carbon blade so I can sharp it on a stone
- 1 pair of socks (mainly for sleeping)
- 2 t-shirts
- 1 wool jumper ( gr8 in the desert to keep cool during day walking, and warm at night)
- 1 light scarf (light cotton 3 to 4 meters long - gr8 for sleeping)
- 1 pair of trousers (when unable to fix any more I buy one locally)
- 1 pair of shoes to get there but usually give them away and swap for the local tire shoe type specially if there are rivers to cross often.
- 1 Gore-Tex shell jacket, (German army) they are gr8 and cheap
- few plasters
- 1 long bandage (usually I use a bit of the scarf)
- 1 multi vitamins
- 1 disinfectant
- 1 sawing kit (needles and some of thread in a film canister)
- 1 compass
- 1 wire saw
- Matches or lighter
- IGN maps of the area (around 100km around)
- 1 savon de Marseille (wash clothes, myself and teeth with it and it is biodegradable. Just the best and last forever.
The cameras (the heavy stuff)
- 2 FM2 Nikon bodies:
Very robust and never had a problem with them. 100% mechanical camera, use batteries just for the meter.( note that manual cameras are not necessarily mechanical) Unfortunately this camera is no longer manufactured as digital is taking over. U can get a Leica M.
I put fresh batteries before going and they last for a few months.
- 1 24f2
- 1 35f2
- 1 85f2
- 1 light meter (1 AA battery that one can find almost all other the planet. This is my backup if the body batteries fail)
- 2 close up filters
and lots of films
For food, I buy whatever I found in the area, and participate to daily camp activities against food, i.e collecting wood, water, cooking, I became a sheppard lol.
I have eaten beans for 4 months in Mexico. BF/lunch/diner not the best
I usually travel by hitchhiking, and then by foot.
I spend most of the time with remote tribes; often nomads, and my projects are of interest to ethnologist as I kind of became a bit of a specialist in the subject matter.
